Planet Fitness value allegedly plummets $400M after Trans Disturbance
Planet Fitness incident

In the last 2 1/2 weeks, Planet Fitness made an enormous mistake, changing the course of success for the famous fitness chain. From the mistake, their competition picked up around 350k new members overnight.

So what the hell even happened?

Well, at Planet Fitness in Alaska, a female member named Patricia Silva was expelled for taking, and sharing, a photo of another member in the locker room. Patrcia claimed that the person in the locker room was a man, leaving a feeling of extreme discomfort for her. Patricia noticed that the person was shaving their face and was clearly a man. I can see where Patricia is coming from, as she mentioned in the Daily Mail, "She had just finished working out at Planet Fitness' Fairbanks location when she saw the person, whom she called 'a man with a penis,' carrying out his routine in front of a 12-year-old girl. "

The gym's staff told Patricia that the other member was part of the LGBTQ+ community. The gym's staff then added that the individual has the right to be in the locker room and Patricia was the one who violated the gym's rule, by taking a photo.

According to the Daily Mail, "Planet Fitness - headed by CEO Craig Benson - revoked Silva's membership and filed a police report against her, citing her violation of gym policy by taking photos and/or videos in the locker room."

Patricia later took her anger to Facebook, putting Planet Fitness on blast.

Below are two posts talking about her experience:

However, from Patrcia's story and public backlash, Planet Fitness didn't seem to back down from the public shame. PF stated 'Planet Fitness staff shall strive to address transgender members with names, titles, pronouns, and other terms consistent with their self-reported gender identity, if reasonably known to the Planet Fitness staff.'

Yet, this wasn't the end of this controversial problem. A source from Daily Mail stated, "Yvette Cormier, a Michigan woman who had her membership with Planet Fitness canceled nine years ago, told DailyMail.com on Thursday that she saw a lot of parallels between her case and that of Patricia Silva."

Clearly, this isn't the first time something like this has happened. So, Planet Fitness, it's time you do better. And this is why I always advocate people joining a private or mom-and-pop gym.

Luckily, if you've made it this far, you already know that there are many other gyms besides Plant Fitness. So, allow me to point you towards www.moregyms.com for the best gyms in your area!
